Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 2, 2009, 4:19 AM

Well, it's almost a week since I've seen it and I guess it's time to get this out of my system XD

I know I'm being quite harsh, so my apologies to all my friends who loved it ^^; I realize my disappointment is mostly a matter of expectations that weren't met...

Let's keep this simple, here's what I found into RotF:

The awesome:
1. Starscream and Megatron interaction. Only two words: OMG SQUEEE!!!!!! XDDD I loved every bit of it... and Starscream's line at the end was pure gold.
2. Soundwave (and Ravage and Rumble): nothing less than perfect. They were a joy for the eyes, and Soundwave's characterization was so spot on it hurt... I mean, he was better than in Animated!! *_____*
3. Opening scene in Shangai. A pure rush of adrenaline, had me hanging on the edge of my seat, I LOVED it... now, if ONLY the whole movie had been directed in that style...

The good:
1. The CG. While not providing the "oh my god... they're doing it, there's a Transformer on this huge screen and it's AWESOME" shiver of the first movie, it was kickass. The fight in the forest was great!
2. The robots designs, Arcee's and Sideswipe's especially... they were coolness!
3. Jetfire. I loved him and his rusty aft XD And he can open space bridge like whoah O_O
4. Wheelie. Actually amusing!
5. Alice and Bumblebee... aka Bee getting jealous and beating Mikaela's rival, I loved that
6. Lennox. Man, I missed you, I wished you got way more time and action in this movie.
7. The Fallen. Creepy and powerful (at least for a little...)

The meh:
Plot, substance, geographical consistency, good pacing... all words apparently unknown to Bay and to Kurtzman & Orci (I believe Star Trek was really lucky to get only a couple of plotholes...).

The bad:
Way. Too. Fucking. Humans.

The horrible:
(and here we go...)
1. Optimus Prime was CHARACTERIZED LIKE A DECEPTICON!!!!!!!!! /outrage. He always has been a character who was FORCED to turn to fighting and violence as a last resort against the Cons... here he enjoys it. I'm happy to see Optimus kicking ass (see Animated), but damn if I'm buying him going all "Gimme your face!". What the hell?!
2. Mikaela. Oh my god, Mikaela, what have they done to you?!? D:> in the first movie she cut into pieces Frenzy only minutes after dealing with the shock of having huge alien robots chasing her, she did an epical team up with Bee, she was beautiful AND badass... here she is... a pretty thing in the background. Oh yes, she dominated a robotic gremlin who was threatening like a rat. Great. And then... she dominated a robotic gremlin who was threatening like a rat and humped her leg.
3. Devastator. He was big (yay!), menacing (yay!!), generally awesome (YAY!!!)... and he did N.O.T.H.I.N.G. (ya... lol whut?). The Constructicon merged to create a slower robot who did something they could do also while separated, and quickly, more efficiently, and without offering such a huge, slow target.
4. The twins. They were humans disguised as robots and annoyingly so. They were painful to watch and listen to. They only did something amusing for 10 seconds... and then they disappeared.
5. Arcee. See Devastator point. They had a kickass, amazing, beautiful design... and they did nothing. Apart from the fact they didn't combine (HUGE disappointment), they appeared and fought for a minute, appeared randomly and did nothing for a couple minutes more, and they died/disappeared into nowhere. WHAT THE HELL???
6. Same point about Sideswipe.
7. Ditto Jolt, minus the one minute coolness in Shangai. He didn't get even that.
8. Ratchet... what Ratchet?
9. Oh, Ironhide you were there, I remember you in the Shangai scene, and... uhm... where were you, again?
8. ...basically, the Autobots were totally useless apart from Optimus (Shattered Glass Optimus, I should say) and Bee.
9. The Fallen vs Optimus fight. While it should have been nothing less than EPIC, what we get is flying Optimus (which manage to look way less awesome than he should have) punching him to death in 10 seconds while throwing nasty lines. Oh yay... -_____-
10. Alice, while being a cool concept, is totally unexplained, it's even beyond the average plothole. Also, she was too Terminator 3...
11. Leo. Autoexplicative.
12. Sam's parents... while I like them, they got WAY too much importance and space.
13. Sometimes Sam was REALLY obnoxious.
14. There were Constructicons doubles. Now, that's simply offensive. You aren't a low budget series, you have no justification.
15. ...the hatchlings. Couldn't they just avoid showing them, instead than adding to the plothole-cave...?

That sums it all. Sadly the good and the awesome weren't enough for me, so it was a huge disappointment, to the point I'm not even watching it a second time ;___; It really depressed me.

Oh well... c'est la vie! XD
On a side note, Coraline was lovely ^^

esatto! peter jackson e i suoi splatter ANCORA!! ..o forse davvero no... dai eran troppo belli quei film...

invece oggi ne ho visto uno carino,si chiama "insanatorium"...presente?

tu hai altro da consigliarmi? possibilmente horror.. *_*

--

...Shaun of the Dead (...in Italia "L'alba dei morti dementi"...
